Greg & Wendy Mann

GUYANA, SOUTH AMERICA

Guyana is an English speaking country and is comprised of 10 regions (similar to our States).  Greg and Wendy are located about 150 miles by airplane from the nearest city.  The majority of the people they minister to are indigenous peoples - 3 of the 10 tribes of Guyana live in this area.  Mostly in the past 5 years, a massive move of migrants has come to this area creating Spanish speaking opportunities.  Most villages have a population ranging from 200 to 1200 people.  Many do not have modern infrastructure such as electricity, roads, medical care, stores, etc.  The education system is improving slightly, but still has a majority of people without the ability read and write at a functional level.  Poverty is widespread.  The suicide rate in Guyana is one of the highest in the world.  Teen pregnancy is extremely high and couples living together outside of marriage is common.
